Home Remedies for Removal of Unwanted Facial Hair

Facial hair, per se, is really unwanted among the fairer sex. It is a problem that many women have to combat throughout their life. Facial hair can conceal the real beauty of an individual. There are a number of reasons why women get excess growth of hair on facial skin.

    Reasons for Unwanted Facial hair
    • Hormonal imbalance leading to excess levels of androgen or testosterone in the body. These are essentially male hormones and can stimulate the hair follicles and encourage hair growth.
    • Increased levels of the male hormones could also be caused by polycystic ovarian disease, tumors in adrenal gland, ovaries and by obesity.
    • Insulin resistance can also cause it.
    • Side effects of certain medications like Tetrahydrogestrinone.

    Waxing

In this method, a thin layer of wax is applied on the body in the direction of hair growth. A piece of tissue or cloth is firmly pressed on top of that and it is pulled in the opposite direction. The result is complete hair removal of the area leaving behind soft and smooth skin. This is probably the most longer lasting among any temporary hair removal methods.

    Shaving

Shaving off hair is probably the most hassle free and cheap option of removing unwanted hair at home. It has to be done carefully avoiding nicks and cuts on the skin. It also leaves the skin rough textured and the hair grows back pretty fast.

    Tweezing and Threading

Tweezing and threading yanks off the hair from the layer beneath the skin and is probably the most pain free and safe method of removing hair on the face. However, it is extremely time consuming.

    Bleaching

Bleaching essentially lightens the color of hair and makes it less evident to the eye. It is good for dark colored but less dense kind of growth like the ones found on the upper lip, neck or chin.

    Hair Removal cremes Depilatories

Essentially made of calcium hydroxide and Sodium or Calcium thioglycolate, it dissolves the surface hair on the skin. A lot of irritation and burning has been reported with its use. It should not be used on dried, chapped, cracked or sensitive skin like that in the under eye area.

    Prescription Hair removal creme

Vaniqa, an FDA approved prescription creme is getting popular in the US. It is an eflorinithine HCI creme and is clinically proven to reduce the growth of hair significantly over a period of 8 weeks.

    Face mask

A homemade face mask of 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 4 teaspoon honey rubbed against the direction of hair growth can solve the problem gradually.
