    Cayenne Pepper, is a potent little fruit full of health benefits. Cayenne like that of the bell pepper, poblanos and jalapenos belong to the nightshade family of peppers.

    These peppers have an element called Oleoresin Capsaicin. It is this element which renders the chili hot and spicy. Oleoresin Capsaicin is the compound from where the pepper derives all its nutritional properties. It reacts with the body’s nerves and releases a neurotransmitter called substance-p in the blood stream. Substance-p causes the burn and is known to temporarily fool the nerves from sending pain signals to the brain. The heat in cayenne is measured in scoville units, also known as heat units. This pepper is conveniently around 30,000 to 50,000 heat units.

    It has known health benefits and is high in Vitamin A. Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, riboflavin, potassium and manganese are also present in it.
