    Home Remedies for Chronic Coughs

    Coughs which last for more than 8 weeks or longer is always referred to as chronic cough. It is caused by several factors such as sinusitis, side effects of medicines, respiratory tract infections, excessive smoking and other acute disorders. When you are using allopathic medications or treatments for cough, there are some things which you can to make yourself better and feel comfort. This article provides information on some home remedies for chronic cough. You can try them and see how efficient they are.

    Black pepper and honey:

    Take 3 – 4 black pepper seeds and prepare a fine powder by grinding them. Now, add a large tablespoon of honey to this powder. Gulp it quickly because it tastes unpleasant. The black pepper is very spicy and honey helps in reducing the spicy levels. Before going to sleep, have this mixture for cough free nights.


    Turmeric milk:

    Turmeric is a best antiseptic. Add a small tablespoon of turmeric powder to some milk and boil it. Take it off from stove and add sugar to it. Drink it when it is lukewarm. Turmeric helps in relieving cough and warm milk helps you to have sound sleep.

    Honey, lemon juice and cinnamon:

    Honey is a great remedy. Extract juice from fresh lime and add ¼ tablespoon of fine cinnamon powder to a tablespoon of honey and lemon juice. Thoroughly mix it and drink the mixture.
    Onion soup and garlic: Garlic is a most popular remedy for chronic cough. You can use it any form to ease the chest pain triggered while coughing. It is best to make a soup with garlic and onion and have it. Add garlic and onion to boiling water and allow them to boil for a few minutes. Later add pepper and salt for taste. Now have this soup to drive away cough.

    Cumin soup:

    This best suits for people who can handle spicy food. Take a tablespoon of cumin seeds and split pigeon peas (toor dal) and grind them. Now take two cups of water and add turmeric powder, salt and tamarind juice and boil it till raw smell of tamarind is lost. Add dal and cumin seeds powder when it starts boiling. Allow it to stay on stove for about 7 minutes. Later add 3 – 4 cups of water to make it a watery consistency. Let it boil and turn off stove when it starts foaming. Add some ghee in a small pan and turn on stove. Now add curry leaves, mustard seeds and asafetida powder to it. Let it stay on heat until mustard seeds start spluttering. Add this to soup and immediately close the vessel using a lid. Have this with rice during a meal or before a meal.

    Honey and aloe vera:

    Honey and aloe vera is the best effective home remedy for chronic cough. Add a tablespoon each of honey and aloe vera and drink it two to three times a day to get relief from chronic cough.

    Mint and eucalyptus leaves steam:

    Besides oral remedies, you may also try inhaling the steam of water which has been boiled with fresh mint and eucalyptus leaves in it. Take a blanket or towel and cover your head and inhale the fumes to get immense relief.

    Almonds:

    Almonds are one of the best home remedies for chronic cough. Take some almonds and soak them in a cup of water overnight. After skinning them, crush them. Now add sugar and butter to make a paste and take it thrice a day.

    Cuscus grass and coconut milk:

    This is another best home remedy. Take 3 – 4 tablespoons of coconut milk and ½ tablespoon of dried cuscus grass. Prepare a mixture with these and consume it two times a day.

    Honey, water, red pepper, ginger and apple cider vinegar:

    This is another useful natural remedy which must be consumed three times daily. Take a tablespoon each of honey, water, apple cider vinegar, ¼ tablespoon of ginger and red pepper and to make a paste. Gulp it to get relief from chronic cough.

    These are some home remedies for chronic cough. These can be used as complements for usual chronic cough treatment. Consult a doctor if the condition do not improve.
