    Treatments for a Dry Scalp

Along with taking good care of the hair, one should always know that the health of the scalps is extremely important as well. While you're trying to moisturize your skin, remember that your scalp also needs that. Many people are affected by the painful and inconvenient condition of dry scalp. A dry scalp can cause:

dandruff (those embarrassing, white flakes that are loosely attached to the scalp and can easily fall off)
    • irritations
    • hair appears dry
    • scalp sores which results in itches or burning sensations

A dry scalp may appear for thousands of reasons such as cold winter weather, excessive use of indoor air conditioner, bad hair products, changes in routine, increased stress levels, too-frequent shampooing, etc. It's important to know exactly what caused your scalp to dry before undertaking any treatment.

There exist many dry scalp treatment choices to pick from which can really help your scalp, depending on what's causing this condition.

    Preventing and protecting it

First, try reducing the use of too much heat on the hair and try washing it only once or twice a week. Shampoo it the right way, with the correct conditioners and moisturizers; also, rinse out the shampoo very well because any shampoo left behind flakes off. Try reducing any use of harsh chemicals such as relaxers and dyers on your hair. Massage your scalp; stimulate it with your fingertips while applying any conditioner treatment or hot oils. Wear a hat on summer days as it protects your scalp from sunburns.

    Interesting DYI dry scalp treatments:

Massage your scalp with lukewarm olive oil, stimulating blood flow to the scalp. Also, you can massage it with vitamin E, lavender oil, jojoba oil, even avocado.

Heat a mix of 2 teaspoons full of virgin olive oil and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Apply it on your scalp when it's lukewarm and leave it there for at least 2 hours before washing it off with a mild shampoo.

Mix 1 cup of cider vinegar (or lemon), 25 drops of peppermint (for itchy scalp) and one cup of boiled or distillated water in a container (other than glass) and coat the hair with the rinse resulted. After you've massaged it in briefly, rinse with warm water.

Gently massage your hair with a paste of grounded oatmeal and water. After leaving it for half an hour, wash your hair with cold water.

Apply to your hair a mix of 2 tablespoons of honey, half a cup of milk and half a cup of extra virgin olive oil for a few hours. Wash it out with moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

Moisturize your hair big time with a special mask made of honey and bananas. Apply it on your scalp and leave it for 30 minutes before rinsing it out with cold water.

To reduce dandruff, rub some plain yogurt on your scalp, in addition to those special anti-dandruff shampoos (like coal-tar shampoos).

If none of these dry scalp treatments worked for you, maybe you should take this serious and pay the dermatologist a visit. He or she can prescribe you different products or, identify if there is a more serious medical reason for your condition, like psoriasis or eczema.
